Helen’s impact on Indian cinema is long-standing. In the 1960s and 1970s, she epitomized grace with her renowned dancing abilities. Her rise to stardom began with the 1958 classic film “Howrah Bridge”, especially the film’s hit song “Mera Naam Ching Ching Chu”. Helen started Pilates at age 85 and is an inspiration to others
In a video that recently went viral on social media, the legendary dancer revealed that Pilates helps her stay energized and pain-free. Helen said that since she started Pilates under the guidance of trainer Yasmin Karachiwala, she feels energized, alive and happy. Previously, she suffered from knee pain that required injections, but her condition has improved significantly. She credits Pilates for helping her to walk unassisted.
Helen says Pilates has helped her walk without a cane
Helen said she uses a cane because of knee problems and injections. She expressed her newfound independence in walking and even hinted at the possibility of dancing again. Karachiwala acknowledged Helen’s dedication to practicing.
In the video, Helen tells Karachiwala, “I feel so energetic, alive, happy and I look forward to this every day. I feel great. I feel elated. I don’t need to drink or smoke to get that high. Pilates gives me that high. I love coming here. Thank you to all the instructors and my special instructor Bimal. I’m 85 and I’m still doing this.”
The veteran actress admitted that fitness experts had been nagging her to practice Pilates daily, but she would often put it off until the next day. Feeling guilty for putting it off so many times, she finally reached out to the expert one day and promised herself that she would never miss a Pilates class again.
