Verapose Yoga House in downtown Dexter will be launching a free community-wide Movement and Meditation Challenge (M&M Challenge) starting June 15 through mid-August.
Inspired by the upcoming closure of Baker Road, Courtney wants to encourage people to walk more: “I hope this construction will encourage people in the community to bike more and walk to the stores more often, and calm their minds and prepare for meditation, all of which helps to reduce the immense stress that Michigan’s construction season brings for everyone.”
Courtney Fitzpatrick launched the business in 2015 with a focus on helping communities become more active and providing a place to learn and practice meditation.
For the M&M Challenge, Verapose will be offering a free exercise and meditation session every Wednesday at 7pm. Participants will meet at the Yoga House for a 30-minute community walk where they can network with other participants and finish off with a 10-minute instructor-led meditation session.
Courtney has partnered with local businesses who will have you entered into a weekly drawing for $25, including Fox&Feather, 3Bird, Grace Proper, Carosello Pasta, Proven, Tiani’s, Cass&Co, Pulse Nutrition, Lily’s Place and Erratic Ale Co. The drawing takes place every Wednesday at 7pm.
Participants will be provided with an accountability tracking card at their own location, in addition to the partner company’s location, to track their weekly exercise and meditation. Once completed, participants can scan and email it to us. Team verapose@gmail.com To enter the drawing, drop it off at the mailbox located at 3173 Baker Road. There is no minimum total time required to participate. “You can’t change anything unless you keep track,” Courtney said.
