Last Thursday, the choir’s concert scheduled for Sunday, June 2, was canceled. This decision came as a result of the congregation’s expression of sadness and has caused further grief to others in the congregation.
Throughout this process, we have been centered on a call to be healers and reconcilers. Where there is pain, there is a call from Christ to learn from it together and to heal together.
Listening and healing for all is our number one priority right now, which is why we are working with racial justice organizations and the diocesan racial justice advisory committee to provide an opportunity for all to express what is on their hearts, to listen deeply to one another, and to begin to find ways to move forward together.
Our core values of radical inclusion, courageous justice, joyful spirituality, and ethical stewardship are beautiful and challenging. We are experiencing those challenges now, and the love we have for one another in our community has sustained us and will continue to sustain us.
I won’t go into details here, but suffice to say that the initial announcement on the church’s website about the concert contained serious misinformation. This FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) for more information. It is also important to note that the initial distribution does not reflect how this process has unfolded.
