The Larimer County Sheriff’s Office arrested an unlicensed acupuncturist after an adult female victim reported being assaulted while being treated by Dr. Rodney Pereira. The victim began receiving acupuncture treatment in mid-2022 at Pereira’s home in Loveland, where his office was located.
Later that year, Pereira, 68, provided massage therapy during a session during which the victim claimed he intentionally touched her intimate parts.
According to the investigation, Pereira claimed to be a retired doctor and provided acupuncture and general medical services. According to investigators, the man was not licensed as a doctor and his license as an acupuncturist expired in 2021.
During further interviews, detectives also learned that Pereira had performed the breast exam despite having “no medical training to qualify”.
Pereira was booked into the Larimer County Jail on Aug. 21 on the following charges: Sexual Assault – False Medical Examination, Sexual Contact – False Medical Examination, Acupuncturist – Sexual Penetration, Acupuncturist – Sexual Contact, unauthorized treatment – massage therapy, unauthorized treatment – acupuncture.
“Legitimate acupuncture services and massage therapy never include sexual contact with the client,” Inspector Bobby Mohr, head of the investigation division, said in a statement. “This violates the legal requirements.” “If this happens, please report it so law enforcement can prevent further harm from happening.”
