Competitive powerlifter Jennifer Andrew has been a personal trainer for nearly a decade, but when the pandemic arrived, the gym she taught at was forced to close and she scrambled to find a new location to serve her clients. I was there.
Andrew took matters into his own hands and replaced his yoga studio Trybe Yoga with Trybe Wellness and Performance Center in 2021. Currently, the Leander Center offers a one-stop-shop for strength training, nutritional guidance, and personalized fitness lessons.
During the transition period, Trybe Yoga has relocated to a larger space at Flying K Ranch, where weekly all-skills yoga classes continue.
About the business
Trybe Wellness and Performance Center offers both one-on-one personal training and small group training for two to eight people.
Andrew can teach all ages and her clients range from weightlifters and athletes to those with more general fitness goals.
In addition, the center offers nutritional coaching and neuromuscular stimulation therapy, a type of physical therapy that can treat sports-related injuries, pain and discomfort, Andrew said.
“Everything is customized and we focus on full care. How you take care of yourself when you’re not in the gym plays a huge role in feeling your best. It’s not just about lifting weights, it’s also about what are you doing at home?” Andrew said.
Starting in late April, the center will also host summer camp sessions for children aged 12 and older.
What makes it special?
Andrew said her compound training methods make her gym unique and different from other gyms.
According to Andrew, this method allows you to switch between max training, using heavy weights at maximum capacity, and lighter dynamic lifting, using resistance tools such as bands and chains.
“It helps me get over the pain points,” Andrew says. “It was a great success to be able to get stronger without getting injured.”

Andrew has been competing in powerlifting since 2015 and has earned dozens of world and state records.
Andrew said her squat weight was 525 pounds, which ranks among the best lifting statistics in the world considering her weight class and age.
