Unfortunately, in today’s fast-paced world, getting a restful night’s sleep can seem like an almost elusive act. When you’re juggling a ton of responsibilities or constantly worrying about different tasks, it’s natural to feel like your brain is always on and your thoughts are racing.
In this video from PS Fit, breathwork instructor Marlize Joubert offers her students a chance to let go and fully surrender. Before they begin, Joubert encourages her students to do some preparation beforehand, like finding a quiet, comfortable place to sit and have a blanket nearby (just in case).
In a calming tone, Joubert asks her students to begin their breathing practice slowly. She asks viewers to start with a two-stage inhalation, breathing slowly into their abdomen for the first inhale, and into their upper chest for the second inhale. Joubert encourages everyone to take turns practicing these two inhalations, followed by a deep exhale.
“This practice is scientifically proven to quiet the brain and monkey mind, helping you unwind from the day,” Joubert reminds viewers. For the rest of the class, Joubert gently guides viewers through a similar breathing pattern. Emphasizing the present moment and taking time to calm the mind, Joubert instructs the class to explore deeper breathing techniques and practice different types of inhalations and exhalations. Finally, Joubert encourages everyone to practice this class as many times as they need, as it can help you fall asleep easily.
