Meditation is a way to train your brain to focus on one thing and direct all your thoughts to the subject you’re thinking about. Over the past few decades, the popularity of meditation has increased significantly among people of all ages.
The main reason for this is that people recognize that meditation has long-lasting physical and mental health benefits. Some people want to increase self-awareness, while others want to reduce stress.
But today, the majority of people use mediation to increase their self-confidence, develop a positive outlook on life, improve their sleep, and even increase their pain tolerance.
World Meditation Day will be celebrated today (Tuesday) across the world, including Bangladesh, through various programs. The Quantum Foundation has written an elaborate program to commemorate this day.
A special program will be held at the National Press Club premises from 6am to 7am. People from all walks of life are expected to attend the one-hour event, including journalists, media personalities, doctors, teachers, students, businessmen and housewives. To commemorate this day, a nursery rhyme and reading contest was organized for children.
The Quantum Foundation also published a special report highlighting the importance and benefits of meditation. Nationals of the country, including residents of Dhaka, will meditate at 6 a.m. apart from expatriate Bangladeshis living in various countries in Europe and America.
The importance of meditation in strengthening one’s self, curing illness, achieving success and peace is now a proven fact. Regular practice awakens the positive within a person. When practiced regularly, it reduces anger, sadness, depression, tension, and physical or mental stress. Attitude changes from negative to positive. Our hearts are of one accord. These practical effects make meditation an alternative method of healing, a surefire way to success, and a go-to technique for relaxation around the world. Keeping pace with the rest of the world, millions of people in Bangladesh use meditation to make their lives more meaningful.
Diseases such as heart disease, cancer, lung complications, and cirrhosis of the liver are caused by tension and stress. Meditation is now popular around the world for stress relief. Doctors at hundreds of hospitals in the United States are training patients in yoga and meditation as a preventative measure to combat stress.
In his book The Breakout Principle, Professor Herbert Benson, founder of the Mind-Body Medical Institute in Boston, describes how people can maximize their mental abilities by relaxing their minds. It explains how it can be improved.
This year’s theme for this day is “Good People, Good Country, Heavenly Bangladesh”.
It is the call of the time to popularize meditation with the aim of transforming this country into a paradise of good thoughts, good speech and good deeds.
With regular practice, meditation will eventually spread from house to house, including educational institutions. And if practiced regularly, this country will become a healthy, active, disciplined and humane society.
