Canadian Mental Health Association York Region and South Simcoe

The demand from local high school students for mental health support is greater than ever, making this year’s Mental Health in Motion fundraising event more important than ever.
Mental Health in Motion, the largest fundraiser for youth mental health in York Region and southern Simcoe, is raising funds for the Canadian Mental Health Association’s (CMHA) Mobile Youth Walk-in Clinic. The vehicle, called MOBYSS, provides youth (ages 12 to 25) with a free, confidential and safe space to speak with a medical or mental health professional.
“A staggering 20 per cent of children and young people in our community experience mental health issues. “While we are expanding with more virtual clinics and high school visits, there are still many needs and no child should be left behind,” said CMHA York Region and South Simcoe CEO. said Rebecca Shields. She said, “Funds raised through Mental Health in Motion are essential to the continued operation of MOBYSS and to support CMHA in expanding the breadth and accessibility of youth health services in the community.”
“My experience with the MOBYSS and CMHA Youth Health Programs has made me feel like I can communicate any help I need, no matter how big or small. Not only is this experience helpful, but it also helps me feel more secure when I talk to an adult I trust.” It was very helpful and I’m glad I was able to participate in this program to talk about what needs to be said,” said a local MOBYSS youth client.
More than 400 York Region and southern Simcoe residents are scheduled to attend in person at the Ray Twinney Recreation Complex on Sunday, June 9th. Routes are available for all skill levels and ages, including 60km or 20km rides and 5km runs or walks. Mental Health in Motion will begin at 9:30am and a BBQ lunch will be provided to all registrants from 11:30am. Virtual participants can run, walk, or cycle the distance of their choice anytime, anywhere from now until June 9th. Register or donate at cmhainmotion.ca.
