Was it a spiritual being? Would you like to help develop the atomic bomb? Did they warn us through Alex Jones before 9/11? Tucker Carlson seems to think so, as he recently pointed out on Joe Rogan’s podcast. The three-hour conversation between the two media giants covered a number of topics, including Japan’s atomic bombing, the collapse of Building 7 on 9/11, and the resignation of President Richard Nixon. I encourage you to listen to this episode. It was fascinating, strange, enlightening and moving all at the same time.
One topic to which Carlson returned repeatedly, and which seemed to thread a thread throughout his conversion, was the “spiritual” or “supernatural” forces that interact with and influence our lives. (he used the words interchangeably) was his claim that there exists. Although Carlson did not explain exactly what these spiritual beings were, he repeatedly asserted that the existence of such beings was a common belief of humanity throughout history. This much is true.
In Carlson’s interpretation of modern history, many events can only be understood in terms of the influence of these spiritual beings. Therefore, each time a new topic arose in his conversation with Logan, Carlson returned to this theme and opposed a purely materialistic interpretation of events.

Let me give three examples that illustrate Carlson’s perspective. The first was a discussion about the existence of extraterrestrial aliens. Specifically, there are reports that the government knows about these aliens and is concealing their existence. Stories of aircraft that defy our understanding of physics and alleged sightings of non-human intelligence. For Carlson, these can be explained by the presence of spiritual beings that exist here on Earth and have existed for thousands of years. They are not from another planet. They have always interacted with humans here.
Another example, albeit brief, mentioned by Carlson was the invention of the atomic bomb. According to him, no one knows how humans were able to harness the power of atoms to create this destructive bomb. He believes that nuclear fission, the process by which an atomic nucleus splits, has no clear origin story. He suggested that some non-human spiritual force may be behind the acquisition of this terrifying power by humans.
Carlson also said that Alex Jones, a notorious commentator known for conspiracy theories, predicted in July 2001 that a plane would crash into the World Trade Center and that a man named Osama bin Laden would cause a riot, suggesting that a spiritual being. brought up the possibility of an impact. He will be blamed for that. According to Carlson, Jones himself does not know why he said such a thing, and that prior knowledge of the event could only have come from some supernatural being.
as a catholic, what should we think about these claims? First, and most importantly, we believe that there are spiritual forces that influence and interact with humans, and that these spiritual forces are supernatural, that is, beyond nature. I believe it and I actually know it. We call them angels and demons (fallen angels). Their influence, which occurs every day around the world, is mainly invisible and usually affects the spiritual realm through suggestions and seductions made by these forces on men and women.
However, the impact can extend to the physical realm as well. The angel Gabriel, a purely spiritual being, appeared in his physical form to the Virgin Mary, and she proclaimed that she would become the mother of the Savior. The physical interaction of these beings can be even more direct than that. For example, Padre Pio literally wrestled with demons and demonstrated that these spiritual beings could interact directly with the physical world.
That being said, there is a real danger in attributing too much to spiritual beings. “Ockham’s Razor” must be applied when inferring whether a spiritual being is directly involved in some event. When two or more competing ideas explain the same phenomenon, preference should be given to the simplest idea, all things being equal.
Let’s look at the examples Carlson gave and apply this principle to them.
First off, the aliens. I don’t believe that all alien encounters are the result of demonic activity, but I also don’t immediately dismiss the possibility. Nor do I believe that all alien encounters are caused by actual extraterrestrials. There are multiple possible explanations for these sightings. It could be a scam. The people making the claims may be lying, or the people behind the supposed phenomenon may be playing tricks. Or it may be a natural event that is not understood by witnesses. Or it could be a man-made device of which the witness is unaware. Or, yes, it could actually be a demon or an extraterrestrial alien (though I admit I think the latter option is the least likely). Importantly, attributing all sightings that cannot be easily explained, as Carlson does, simply to the activity of spiritual beings is a leap in logic beyond what the data suggest.
Carlson runs into more problems when he suggests that the development of the atomic bomb was directed by an outside spiritual force. Coincidentally, I just finished reading a book about the history of Einstein’s famous equation E=mc.2, the scientific fundamentals needed to create the atomic bomb. In this book, the author explores everything about the bomb, from Einstein’s special theory of relativity to the actual bomb itself, including the discovery of nuclear fission by Lisa Meitner and her nephew Robert Frisch in the 1930s. We trace the history of how it was developed. To be honest, I don’t know where Carlson got the idea that the development of nuclear fission is somehow mysterious. It’s actually a very clear scientific development.
Finally, what about Alex Jones’ 9/11 predictions? First, while the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon were shocking to the American public, many analysts believed that further terrorist attacks would occur on American soil. Furthermore, Osama bin Laden is a famous terrorist leader, and the World Trade Center was already the target of a terrorist attack in 1993. So when someone like Jones said something like 9/11 could happen, it wasn’t exactly a prophecy.
But far more importantly, Carlson gets the facts wrong. I looked up Alex Jones’ “prophecy” and Jones doesn’t actually say that planes will crash into the World Trade Center and that it will be Osama Bin Laden’s fault. No, he talks about the possibility of future terrorist attacks and mentions many other things, including plane bombings, bin Laden, the previously attacked World Trade Center, and the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing.what he is doing do not have But it categorically predicts 9/11 as what actually happened.
None of the above is to suggest that spiritual beings are not involved in these events. For example, the devil may not have ordered the construction of atomic bombs, but he most likely rejoiced in the creation of atomic bombs and influenced humans to use them whenever possible. However, this is different from saying that spiritual beings directly gave humanity the idea and means of division.
I think it’s Tucker Carlson. He is one of the best commentators today and his comments, especially on political issues, should be taken seriously. However, although he apparently sees spiritual beings at work, there is little evidence to suggest that. Recognizing the supernatural powers of spirituality is an understandable response to today’s dominant materialism. In a society that refuses to acknowledge the spiritual world, smart people like Carlson realize that there is more out there.There teeth Spiritual and supernatural beings that influence and interact with us. But they don’t explain everything we don’t immediately understand.
This is where the wisdom and experience of the Catholic Church comes in handy. For 2,000 years, the Church has been at the forefront of protecting humans from demonic forces, often with the help of angelic powers. Therefore, she recognizes that invisible forces are at work in the world. But she also knows about humans and our capacity for self-deception and our widespread ignorance.
Consider how the church approaches exorcism. When there is a claim of demonic possession, the church does not immediately send an exorcist. She first tries hard to find a natural explanation, whether physical, psychological, or otherwise. The exorcist is a last resort, as the chances of direct supernatural possession are much lower than natural explanations.
Catholics today need to take the same approach to claims about the influence of spiritual beings on humans. You can’t fire them right away, but you shouldn’t blindly accept them either. We should first turn to natural explanations, and only after exhausting them should we consider spiritual explanations. In this way, we can properly “test the spirit” while recognizing human agency in the world.
