“It makes me feel great, it lifts my spirits. I don’t need to drink or smoke to lift my spirits. Pilates makes me feel good,” the 85-year-old joked.

Who says that growing older means you can no longer do certain activities or become lame? If you have the will, you can surely find a way to take up a hobby you love, even if it’s a tough workout that will make you sweat. Take the example of the late actress and dancer Helen Anne Richardson Kahn (aka “Helen”). At 85, she goes to the gym to practice Pilates, defying the established norms about fitness for older adults. The actress is happy, active, and healthy.

Celebrity fitness instructor Yasmin Karachiwala shared a video of Karachiwala exercising on her official YouTube channel. “Age is just a number when you’re dancing through life with Pilates,” she wrote. The four-minute video captioned the video:Piya to ab to aaja‘ The dancers worked their bodies through several Pilates routines, and black and white footage of old songs was also played.

While answering the question of why she started this job PilatesHelen said she started before the first coronavirus lockdown in 2020. “It was fun, but after the lockdown… [practise] A couple of years…” It was Karachiwala who encouraged her to take up Pilates again.

In the video, Helen is seen working out with a trainer, who has her work on the range of motion of her hands using resistance bands. “I started and I’m not going to stop,” she says. [a] “I’ve been going to Pilates classes again,” the actress said, adding that she feels “full of energy,” “alive” and “happy” these days.

She spoke further about her health and mobility issues, admitting that when she first walked into Karachiwala’s studio, she was carrying a walking stick. “The walking stick is in a cupboard somewhere now. I had problems with my knee and had to get knee injections. Now the problem is completely gone. I can walk on my own and maybe even go dancing,” Helen joked.

She is in her 80s. Pilates She goes to a Pilates class every day and says, “It makes me feel great, it lifts my spirits. I don’t have to drink or smoke to lift my spirits. Pilates lifts my spirits.”

Pilates for Seniors

When seniors start Pilates, it is important to start slowly to avoid injury. They should also work out with a trainer who can teach them about different forms and exercises. Pilates is highly favored because it is a low-impact exercise that can work the whole body and strengthen muscles. It can also improve posture, so it is never too late to start. For seniors, Pilates is known to improve bone density, mobility, and balance. Mood and memory are naturally improved, and pain is reduced.
