Beyond the flavorful food and atmosphere of Soul Restaurant in Murfreesboro lies the mysterious persona of owner John Smith. His third restaurant in Middle Tennessee is drawing crowds.
John Smith said he wanted to give something back to the community through food.
“I wanted to open Soul because I wanted something different. I was born and raised in Nashville and there are a lot of country restaurants here, so I wanted something new in Soul. Soul “It’s not just about food, it’s about culture. That’s one of the reasons we play a lot of R&B and soul music,” he said.
“It was just something I wanted to do and I had some extra money, so I decided to go into restaurants. The people loved it, the tourists loved it, so now I have three locations (one in Antioch and one in Nashville). I have one).
The menu includes salmon alfredo, lamb chops, fried catfish, lobster and ribeye steak. Chef specialties include oxtail and smoked fried chicken.
Smith said her favorite dish is the red snapper with rice, cabbage and pinto beans.
Smith’s restaurants are gaining attention despite having no experience in the industry.
“I had never had a job before, but I had a passion for business,” Smith said. “I started as a club promoter and then moved from promoter to concert. From there I started my marketing business, which I still do today. It was just a dream to make it happen, and it’s been going very well. People come from all over the country to enjoy and eat in Seoul.
Soul is filled with colorful photos, flowers, and statues that you don’t see in most restaurants.
Soul customer Camron Hampton said, “The beauty and lamb chops make coming to Soul a pleasure. It also makes for a great date night with quality black music.”
