“You can use it for frosting and decorating and easily adapt it for a variety of holidays and celebrations,” the Food Network judge says. “As soon as you finish one, you’ll want another!” says Tanya Ngangan, consulting pastry chef at Old John’s Diner in New York City, of the soft, buttery, and “hypnotic” cookies.
“This recipe is perfect for the home cook because it doesn’t have that many ingredients and you probably already have most of the ingredients in your pantry,” she says. “It’s a very versatile blank canvas — you could easily substitute almond extract or lemon extract for the vanilla extract, for example.”

Berry Trifle with Whipped Mascarpone Cream
This summery, barbecue-friendly dish is “simple and quick to make,” says the chef and founder of Atlanta’s Forou Vakili restaurant Le Bon Noche. “You can’t go wrong. You can add a little more of this or a little less of that and still have a really delicious dessert.”
Vakili describes the flavor as similar to “strawberry shortcake,” but with more summer berries.
