EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) — The Paso Del Norte Health Foundation has partnered with Local Collaborative 3 (LC3), who say they are looking to improve the mental health and substance use care system in Doña Ana County. They plan to do this through action teams that will work to improve specific policies, programs and practices.
They say they want to build a behavioral health system to promote safer, healthier communities in New Mexico. LC3 says it invited New Mexico mental health providers, state and local officials, police and fire departments, local schools and universities, nonprofits and community advocates to a two-day “Strategic Reboot” event. The event was held at the Southern New Mexico Community Foundation.
During the event, participants reviewed the results of the latest Community Needs Assessment. They also gathered ideas and discussed existing strategies and interventions. Participants concluded that the areas of focus would be youth services, legislation and sustainable funding, supportive and specialized services, crisis services, housing services, and care coordination.
“The overall goal of this event was to build collaboration to achieve a comprehensive, coordinated behavioral health system that is individual and family-centered,” said Javier Guerrero, ICS Community Coordinator for LC3. “LC3 has an unwavering commitment to promoting and providing comprehensive mental health and substance use disorder services for the residents of Doña Ana County, New Mexico.”
