Are you bored with your current workout routine and want something different? This year’s She’s Coming to the Hamptons in March, we spoke to Amanda Duckstein, founder of Shadowbox Pilates, to find out more about the newest addition to the community.
Duckstein has been teaching and practicing Pilates for 13 years in studios in Nashville, New York City, Westchester, and the Hamptons. So Shadow Box He may be wondering what makes Pilates different from other exercise opportunities in the East End. Dachstein plans to combine the classic techniques and flows of mat, reformer, and tower Pilates with the cardio intensity of shadow boxing.
Five different classes are offered at the Water Mill headquarters on Montauk Highway, with options for weighted bangles or resistance bands for the arms or legs. “We wanted to make sure that people felt something different here,” Duckstein said. With just a space for his 10 reformers, Duckstein said, “I wanted people to feel like they found a community here.” The intimacy of classes of up to 10 people is increased by having two rows of each machine facing each other. Duckstein hopes to remove the notion of there being a “front” of the room and encourage participants to “feed off of each other’s energy and feel like they’re working out as a community.”
Each class accommodates any level of skill except for the Shadow Techniques class. Duckstein encourages anyone who is confident in the basics of Pilates and wants to improve further to take the course. Mr Duckstein said: Is it just their workout routine or how they feel about themselves internally? ”
Shadowbox Pilates also has an infrared sauna in-house that can be used in conjunction with your workout routine or on its own as a recovery method. This two-person sauna can be booked through the website.
Duckstein is scheduled to open March 20th, but updates can be found on Instagram @ShadowboxPilates or on the website ShadowBoxPilates.com. See you at Shadowbox Pilates this spring!
