JAKARTA – Hendrawan Supratikno, member of the PDIP faction of the House of Representatives Committee of the Republic of Indonesia (DPR RI), agreed with the statement of Prabowo Subianto Gibran Rakabuming and Sudrajad Jiwandono, members of the Expert Council of the People’s Movement Team (TKN), who said that in the short term, the Free Nutrition Food (MBG) program is more realistic to implement than the IKN development project.
“I think what Sudrajad said is more realistic because IKN is a long-term project,” he said at a press conference at Parliament House on Wednesday (July 3).
Hendrawan said the IKN project is a long-term project and it will take 15 to 20 years to complete the development of the area into a city.
This is similar to the process of moving capitals in other countries.
“We envision IKN as a viable city, but IKN is about 15 to 20 years away. The ecosystem of the capital city, a new region with an underpopulated population and inadequate infrastructure, has not yet been built,” he explained.
Hendrawan said a nutritious lunch programme that could be implemented in the short term was more realistic given that half of Indonesia’s population does not have access to nutritious food.
“So what Pak Sudrajad said is more realistic. Food is nutritious, right? 50% of what we eat is not nutritious. Don’t go too far, this is out, people eat crackers. So if you eat crackers and flour every day, how do you deal with artificial intelligence? In Indonesia, it’s great to eat rice, side dishes, all the same carbohydrates. Amazingly, crackers are also carbohydrates, so the variety of carbohydrates is great. So, certainly nutritious food is urgent,” he explained.
However, Hendrawan said the government and the DPR had discussed the 2025 IKN budget to determine an indicative upper limit for the 2025 National Revenue and Expenditure Budget (APBN).
“Just to prepare for the President’s speech at the DPR on the 16th. [August]”But the official figures will be released in September. The figures are still being compiled by the current administration,” he said.
Hendrawan did not deny the possibility that the set IKN budget could be changed again if President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) wants to increase the IKN budget to ensure the sustainability of IKN’s development.
“There are discussions, but if President Jokowi wants to make it bigger, of course, so that the archipelago capital is a successful project. We cannot let it fail and have, for example, another Hambalang incident. Everyone wants the archipelago capital to actually be successful. But it’s not easy. Continuous efforts are needed,” he concluded.
