TikTok and food go hand in hand.
The platform is home to a wide variety of food-related content, from creators sharing recipes and reviewing dishes to people engaging in mukbang. Not surprisingly, it’s sparking a variety of food trends.
Best memes of 2024 (so far)
Interestingly, 2024 has seen a shift away from stunt food, a type of content that features strange and not necessarily tasty concoctions, usually made in an air fryer. Instead, TikTok users are gravitating towards real food and exciting recipes. While these don’t necessarily become viral trends, the platform is brimming with quality food content. You can learn how to save on meat from your butcher or discover how to make beautiful salads with pantry staples. The focus has shifted away from gimmicks, like air frying Oreos, to more practical and inspiring cooking tips.
But food trends, both good and bad, are still making waves in 2024. Now that we’re halfway through the year, here are some of the most notable trends so far.
Cottage cheese…it’s everywhere
Who would have thought 2024 would be the year of cottage cheese? But here we are. TikTok is brimming with recipes for cottage cheese toast, cottage cheese bowls, cottage cheese protein cookie dough, and just about anything else you can think of. Cottage cheese has captured TikTok’s hearts as a high-protein, relatively low-calorie, and delicious food. It’s refreshing to see it being used as a healthy, satiating ingredient, far removed from the stigma of ’90s diet culture.
I used to think I didn’t like cottage cheese, but 2024 has proven me wrong. The ’90s were full of terrible diet-focused foods.
Raw carrot salad
Raw carrot salad recipes have racked up millions of views on TikTok, and these recipes typically include thinly sliced shredded carrots, sour sauce, and some great seasonings that result in seriously tasty, lightly pickled carrots.

Many videos tout this salad as being good for gut and hormone health, and while I can’t vouch for those claims, I love raw carrot salad, so it’s great to see it trending in 2024.
How much chipotle… How much chipotle
TikTok became obsessed with Chipotle’s (seemingly) reduced portions, causing such a stir that the CEO was forced to awkwardly mention it in an interview.
Do you know if the volume has gone down? No. Would that surprise you? Not at all. Big companies often try to maximize profits at the expense of their customers.
But TikTok users have started filming Chipotle employees stretching or skimping on portions, and it’s really rude to shove a camera in someone’s face, so please stop.
Nevertheless, Chipotle portions have been a prominent trend on TikTok this year.
Chamoy Pickles
Neon red pickles? Sure, why not?
In case you’re unaware, chamoy pickles are all the rage on TikTok. Chamoy is a brightly colored Mexican condiment that’s often paired with fruit, and now it’s being used in pickles too. Some people are even taking it a step further, stuffing snacks like Flamin’ Hot Cheetos into the pickles and wrapping them in Fruit Roll-Ups. It sounds gross, but it makes for some great TikTok content. While chamoy pickles themselves aren’t stunt food, stuffing them with snacks certainly is.
Yes, stunt food still exists on TikTok, but the platform is a great place to discover new food trends, and the next six months are sure to bring even more exciting developments.
