- The Cincinnati Bengals received an F- in the “Nutrition/Dietitian” category, which affects player performance.
- Tom Brady and other players credit their success on the field to a proper diet.
- Despite their recent success, the Bengals are the least valuable franchise in the NFL due to their poor history and the methods of owner Mike Brown.
Free agents aren’t just looking for financial rewards and a chance to win a Super Bowl, they’re also interested in the amenities franchises offer. This week, the NFLPA released its team report card, evaluating each team’s various offerings.
The Cincinnati Bengals did pretty poorly in the Nutrition/Dietitian category, receiving an F- (who knew that was an option?).
Athletes are well aware that a good diet can give them an advantage on the field. The most notable recent example is Tom Brady, who remains one of the best players in the league even in his 40s, and he says that he’s been able to do so thanks to his diet. Other players like Cam Newton and Justin Fields have also touted the benefits of a vegetarian diet.

Bengals rank as NFL’s least valuable franchise
Mike Brown has owned the team since 1991.
Thanks to the Zac Taylor-Joe Burrow duo, the Bengals have become one of the best teams in the NFL, going 31-19 over the past three seasons and going 5-2 in the playoffs under Taylor, including an appearance in Super Bowl 56 where they lost 23-20 to the Los Angeles Rams.
Still, the Bengals struggled for decades before their current wave of success. Mike Brown has been the team’s owner since 1991, when he took over the franchise from his father, Paul, founder of the Bengals and the Cleveland Browns that bear his name. Under his ownership, the team has a record of 223 wins, 303 losses and four ties, and has only made the playoffs nine times in nearly 35 years.
In addition to his poor play on the field, Brown has also frequently been criticized for cutting corners. In an interview with Colin Cowherd, Pro Bowler TJ Houshmanzadeh pointed out that the team doesn’t provide Gatorade or bottled water to players, and also claimed that in the past players have been given used jockstraps.
For some reason, the Bengals are ranked by Forbes magazine as the least valuable team in the NFL. Yet the franchise has a passionate fan base and is enjoying its most success in decades. But that’s just how Mike Brown has always run the team, and it’s unlikely to change anytime soon.
