In the dynamic landscape of the Indian culinary industry, Indian women are actively taking part in entrepreneurship. They are increasingly taking the initiative and showcasing their culinary prowess. Cafes, restaurants and start-ups are being recognised for their managerial prowess. A recent example has come from the Theni district of Tamil Nadu. Bharatpur-based entrepreneur Hema is making waves with her innovative start-up.
Hema and her mother started their business based on their passion for nutritious food. After acquiring knowledge from the Central Agricultural Sciences Training Centre, they mastered the art of making nutritious blends and powders using small grains like black wheat, red rice, rye and groundnuts. They sell instant nutritional mixes and powders. They offer healthy solutions.
Initially, the mother-daughter duo produced up to 5 kg of product daily. Hema now envisions expanding her business and taking a step towards a full-fledged manufacturing unit. She aims to expand her business through online platforms and reach a wider market. Her story highlights the entrepreneurial spirit of women and at the same time the vital role they play in driving culinary innovation in the country.
Similar success stories are being seen across the country, highlighting a trend of women entrepreneurs increasingly breaking barriers. Women are now carving out niches in traditionally male-dominated fields. Online platforms like Swiggy and Zomato are backing such women-led ventures. One good example is Priya Sharma’s Bonfire Pizza in Rishikesh. Swiggy helped the startup scale up production and reach a wider customer base.
Hema and other women entrepreneurs’ journeys are one of empowerment and innovation – they are transforming India and spreading the message that women can succeed in business.
