SOUTH WHITEHALL TOWNSHIP, Pa. — The benefits of stretching before and after a workout have long been known in the exercise world, but what about stretching as a form of exercise?
A new spot dedicated to stretching has opened in the Lehigh Valley.
“I was watching them build this place, and one day I came here and they gave me stretches so I wasn’t stiff anymore,” he said. , said Sam Iorio of Macungie, who had back surgery.
“I’ve been going twice a week and I’ve noticed that I don’t have the problems I used to have.”
“People are starting to realize that stretching has become a part of their overall daily routine and is necessary to stay healthy.”
Tom Sebold, Owner, Stretch Lab Tillman Square
Iorio has become a regular at Stretch Lab, a stretching assistance studio that opened in the fall in Tillman Square in South Whitehall Township.
“There are some stretches that you can’t do on your own. You need someone to help you stretch the parts of your body that you can’t stretch on your own,” he said.
“There are some muscles that you can’t do on your own.”
Stretching your body is a proven way to prevent or improve injury and is the basis of Stretch Lab.
“People are starting to realize that stretching should become part of their overall daily routine to stay healthy and avoid injury,” said Tom Sebold, who runs Stretch Lab with his wife Gina. “There is,” he said.
“It’s a one-on-one stretch, certainly the kind you can’t do alone.
“It’s definitely different from chiropractic, which falls into the wellness field, and it’s really just an effort to work on increasing people’s flexibility, lengthening their muscles, and helping them with mobility.”
“Meeting their needs”
The Iolios said all of their flexologists have some sort of physical activity background, such as a degree in exercise science or kinesiology, or are yoga instructors.
“We don’t have to push too hard or push back on the stretch to reap the benefits of the stretch aid,” says yoga instructor Gina Seibold.
“They don’t have to give us a 10 for pain or anything. We meet clients where they are. So we have everyone from 8 years old to 80+.
“This means that each person is different and will cater to their own needs.”
“I wake up in the morning without any discomfort. I’ve been able to stretch enough to get here in the morning. I’m amazed at how toned my body is.”

Tom Sebold says, “People want to try to avoid getting injured. People who have jobs like desk jobs can feel very cramped just doing repetitive motions.”
All flexologists take a certification course and all participants undergo a needs assessment to find out which type of stretching is right for them.
“I wake up in the morning without any discomfort. I’ve been able to stretch out enough in the morning to get here,” Iorio said. I’m surprised at how toned my body is. ”
Sessions last approximately 25-50 minutes and cost $30 or more. Stretch Lab also offers a membership program.
