STORY READING — Last Word Theatre will present a reading of Ronnie Sanlo’s one-act play “We Say Gay” at the Unitarian Universalist Church in DeLand during the 10:30 a.m. service on Sunday, June 30. The reading is in honor of Gay Pride Month. The reading features talented local actors, including (left) Nancy Jacobsen, Jim Drees, Jade Hawk Smith, Carol Drees, Marla Whittridge, George Stevenson and Lester Figueroa. The director is Deborah McShane. The public is welcome. Contains adult language. Admission is free, but donations are greatly appreciated and will help UU support social justice issues.

Mark 4:35-41 tells the story of how while fishing with Jesus, the doubting apostles encountered a violent gust of wind and panicked. Jesus rebuked them, calmed the wind, and then asked, “Why are you so afraid? Have you still no faith?”
Pastor Boger challenges those whose doubting worldview extends to their relationship with God.

Sandy MessickHe is a local pastor for Florida Disciples. He came to the ministry after a career in the health insurance industry. In 2019, he retired from Premier Blue Cross in Spokane, Washington.
