Welcome to Bazaar Spa Reviews, where our beauty team takes a closer look at vacation-worthy havens. Whether you’re looking for a transformative facial, a tension-relieving massage or simply an afternoon lazing around the pool, we know the perfect place for you. This week, Look inside Bamford Wellness Spa in Daylesford is a Cotswold hotspot. It provides the perfect backdrop for a well-deserved holiday.
setting
Quintessentially located in the picturesque Cotswold countryside, Daylesford Farm offers the perfect retreat, seamlessly blending luxury with rustic charm, whether you’re looking for shopping, a spa day or a full-on staycation.
Not your typical spa hotel, this enchanting destination is made up of beautifully restored properties including 32 charming cottages, the tranquil Bamford Wellness Spa, members-only The Club by Bamford, four distinctive gastro pubs and the renowned Daylesford Organic Café Deli Farm Shop. Each property has been meticulously designed to reflect Daylesford’s core values of sustainability, craftsmanship and harmony with nature.
Spa Treatments
The highlight of your Daylesford experience is undoubtedly Bamford Wellness Spa. Set amidst 3,500 acres of organic farmland, the spa takes inspiration from the natural beauty that surrounds the property to provide a sanctuary for holistic wellness. This is reflected in the design: the light-filled interior evokes the natural elements of fire, water, earth and air, and light white wood panelling exudes a clean, calming atmosphere.
Features include wet facilities such as an immersion hydropool, herbal sauna and steam room, mind- and movement-based studio classes (from reformer pilates to qigong) and Bamford-branded face and body therapies.
While medically inspired treatments are on offer (including those using LED and skinpens), I decided to fully immerse myself in Bamford’s holistic wellness philosophy and opted for the Signature Facial to start with. It’s deeply pampering yet visibly effective, combining the use of organic products with steam, exfoliation, drainage massage and hot and cold stone therapy to contour and firm the skin and face. Then, as I’m pregnant, I enjoyed a gentle prenatal massage. A full-body massage using gentle unscented oils, the restorative massage eased my backache and “heavy legs” and helped me to easily release stress.
Meanwhile, next door, The Club by Bamford (accessible to members and Daylesford Stays guests with an exclusive pass) offers cutting-edge wellness-focused treatments, from cryotherapy and red light therapy to infusions and intramuscular boosters. With a focus on bespoke wellness, experiences are designed to be customised to enhance physical and mental wellbeing, but the club’s key facilities are already well suited to this purpose. With an impressive 25-metre pool, state-of-the-art gym and indoor and outdoor functional fitness and therapy facilities, this elite proposition promises to enhance every aspect of visitors’ strength, stamina, sleep and recovery – even if just for a moment.
stay
If you choose to stay overnight (highly recommended), the charm of Daylesford is best experienced with an overnight stay in one of the beautifully restored cottages. Each accommodation is decorated to celebrate local craftsmanship and natural materials, offering a unique blend of comfort and style.
After a rejuvenating day, a meal at The Fox at Oddington was the perfect end (artisanal pizza). One of four cosy establishments in Daylesford, this pub offers a lively atmosphere and a menu featuring locally sourced produce. Breakfast in the cottage was another treat, thanks to a hearty hamper prepared for us on arrival. A stroll through Daylesford village, surrounded by manicured plants and listening to the joyous bleating of sheep, was another memorable part of our 24-hour stay.
Special touches
What sets Daylesford apart are the unique touches that make every visit feel special. Whether they’re looking to relax or explore, guests at Daylesford Stays have access to a range of activities and amenities beyond the Bamford Wellness Spa and Club, including floristry workshops, cookery classes at Daylesford Cooking School and VIP farm tours. Dining options are plentiful, from Michelin-starred restaurant Trough to the spa’s intimate Orchard Bar. And, most importantly, the company’s commitment to protecting the environment is evident in everything it does, from the organic produce in its luxury farm shop to the renewable energy that powers its cottages and pub.
A visit to Daylesford is more than just a holiday: it’s an immersion in a lifestyle that emphasises health, sustainability and the relaxing pleasures of country living.
Starting prices for spa days/access are £250 for a B Clear Spa Day and the introductory rate for an overnight stay in a cottage (not a pub room) in Daylesford Village is £394 for a one bed.
