South Korea’s upcoming ‘customized health functional food system’ aims to meet growing consumer demand and promote industry growth

South Korea plans to introduce a “customized health functional food system” in January next year to meet individual nutritional needs.

This system will help promote the domestic health functional food industry and strengthen product safety management.

It will be improvised on the basis of a four-year pilot project in the country with personalized nutrition. The pilot project achieved high consumer satisfaction (95%), and the number of stores approved to participate has increased from an initial 180 to approximately 3,700 as of the end of last year.

Joint safety: Vietnam partners with South Korea to complete new digital food safety management system

Vietnam has launched a new digital food safety management system jointly developed with South Korea, and one of its main functions is to monitor food poisoning outbreaks across the country.

This partnership is part of the Korean Ministry of Food and Drug Safety’s (MFDS) Official Development Assistance (ODA) program, which helps promote economic development and social welfare in developing markets.

“Overall, we hope that the establishment of this system will significantly contribute to the digital transformation of Vietnam’s food system, significantly improve the efficiency of food safety management operations, and strengthen public safety management.” Nguyen Thanh Huong, Director-General of Vietnam Food Agency, said:

Ignore the law: South Korea traps 150 health functional foods to promote hair loss prevention

Hair loss prevention has not yet been approved as an efficacy claim for health functional foods in South Korea, the MFDS warned after identifying 146 online advertisements with related claims.

The regulator said an inspection of online advertising across e-commerce platforms, social media accounts and second-hand goods markets in February found a total of 622 false and exaggerated advertisements related to hair removal.

The report emphasized that although functional cosmetics that claim to alleviate the symptoms of hair loss have been approved, so far no health functional food has been shown to be effective in preventing or treating hair loss.

Height growth claims: MFDS catches about 260 problematic online ads

South Korea’s MFDS has discovered 259 problematic online food advertisements that claim to be effective in “height growth” or “promote height” or are positioned as “height nutrition” products for children. .

The incident was discovered in February during an inspection of e-commerce sites and social networking services (SNS) such as Instagram and Facebook.

Approximately 7 out of 10 cases involve labeling of general foods that misidentify them as foods with health claims (HFF), which is a violation of the Food Labeling and Advertising Act.

Not-so-sweet babies: Philippine Congress could ban added sugar in infant foods

Members of the Philippine government are seeking regulations to formally ban manufacturers from using added sugar as an ingredient in foods for children under three years of age.

“Recent data shows that young Filipinos are at high risk of obesity due to their intake of energy-dense and low-nutrition foods, and that increasing urbanization and rising incomes are exacerbating the risk of obesity. It turns out that there is.”Sen. Aimee R. Marcos emphasized this to the Senate when introducing the bill earlier this year.

“The proposed bill aims to ensure good nutrition, optimal child growth and development, and improved child health.” she added.
