When you hear the word yoga, you probably picture a room full of people on a mat doing the same curious poses.

But Soul Fitness Body Mind Studios is much more than Downward Dog.
E-RYT 500, Certified Human Movement Specialist and Reiki Master Lisa Babiuk has a very unique approach to fitness and health, based on over 30 years of education and experience in understanding how the body moves. We have developed a unique system called the Integral Movement System.
“We have an international following as one of the leading movement educators focused on fascia and living tensegrity, or biotensegrity,” Babiuk says. “The main advantage and what sets us apart is our focus on these areas. If applied correctly, the effects are immediately noticeable.”
Tensegrity science is the idea that muscles, bones, ligaments, and tendons are all part of the same system and work together through tension and compression to make your body stronger. Babiuk’s system focuses on restructuring organizations through multidimensional movement.
It challenges traditional body care methods and aims to improve performance and reduce or eliminate chronic pain through appropriate movement.
One-on-one training begins with a complete movement assessment, followed by weekly or bi-weekly sessions designed to build structural integrity throughout the body.
Each session is different and reflects the client’s changing needs as their body remodels and adapts to exercise.
“This opens up a whole new freedom of movement,” Babiuk says.
Focusing on the individual is important because everyone’s body moves differently and the solution doesn’t lie in the same static poses or linear exercises for everyone.
“If you’ve seen one person with back pain, you’ve met one person with back pain,” she says.
The program also includes notes and homework for each session to promote consistency in training. Participants will receive complimentary membership to Integral Movement branded drop-in classes for the duration of their training contract.
For people who suffer from pain during daily life or exercise, for elite athletes who want to improve their performance, for older people who want to combat the effects of aging, other forms of physical therapy and personal therapy have long-term benefits. It’s useful for those who didn’t get it. training.
Babiuk had one client who was scheduled for spinal surgery but was on a one-year waiting list and needed help during that time. Babiuk started her treatment, and by the time her surgery was actually scheduled, her doctor said she didn’t need any more surgery.
“That’s a great result,” Babiuk said. “This shows us what Integral Systems can do while we wait.”
In addition to one-on-one sessions, Integral Movement Systems also offers drop-in classes. Integral Strength and Integral Stretching are designed to increase efficiency and adaptability of movement. We also offer private group programs for sports teams aimed at speeding recovery times and preventing injuries, and all sessions also include a mental skills component.
Soul Fitness also offers a variety of yoga classes, including the very popular suspension class. Suspension yoga includes a hammock as a prop that takes the weight off your body, allowing for a variety of movements, increased pose awareness, balance training, and supportive inversions.
Babiuk has also developed a unique style of yoga, Blob Yoga, which uses partially deflated balance balls (which look like blobs!) instead of hard blocks or restraints. It provides a deeper level of relaxation and allows for deep movement as your body moves. Blob yoga also promotes and helps with deeper levels of sleep.
Other classes to try include hatha yoga, yin yoga, flow yoga, and express yoga (some classes also have hot yoga and candlelight variations).
