With the goal of meeting the nutritional needs of Filipinos, European manufacturer Sole Pharma is introducing to the Philippines a line of supplements and vitamins that contribute to the goals of the Philippine Nutrition Action Plan (PPAN).

The Philippine government has developed the PPAN for 2023-2028 based on previous versions to address nutrition-related issues and improve the nutritional status of Filipinos. However, awareness of PPAN does not seem to be widespread at the barangay level where implementation takes place.

“While poverty is often thought to be the cause of micronutrient deficiencies, it is also due to Filipinos’ over-reliance on rice and lack of dietary diversity,” said Makati Medical’s Nutrition and Dietetics Department Director. says Marikar Escult, MD. Center (Makati Med).

Micronutrient deficiencies are a type of malnutrition that occurs when the body does not get enough vitamins and minerals, which can affect a person’s health and development. A SEARCA publication (2022) proposed biofortification to address micronutrient deficiencies, which formed the basis for his establishment of PPAN. In addition to this, observers also note the lack of sophisticated international alternatives to natural vitamins, the lack of knowledge of healthy nutrition among the population, and the widespread use of supplements that are not officially registered in the country. It pointed out.

Recognizing this problem, Sole Pharma expanded into the Philippines with FDA approval last year. The company is globally recognized, with more than 50 of his products sold in more than 20 countries around the world, including Europe, North America, and East Asia, and is now a leading European pharmaceutical company expanding into the Southeast Asia region. One of the manufacturers.

To date, Sole Pharma offers six of its most in-demand products, currently available at major pharmacies nationwide. These products were selected in response to specific vitamin deficiencies of the local population. Firstly, Hepastrong AMINO aims to solve the problem of fatty liver disease or fatty liver disease, eliminate toxic ammonia from the body and enhance the detoxification process.

Immune Glucan (250 mg), an enriched dose of beta-glucan, is one of the most potent prebiotics and immune system protectors and is aimed at lowering the overall immunodeficiency index of Filipinos.

Altroberone, a joint formula containing omega-3, chondroitin, and other molecules necessary to maintain joint function, is now available to two vulnerable groups: the elderly and those with corresponding injuries. Contributes to joint mobility and flexibility, repairs synovial membranes and reduces inflammatory processes.

Sole Pharma has also introduced a multivitamin for daily use that can reduce the overall negative effects such as anxiety, eye degeneration, cognitive decline, and mental fatigue that are often faced by the majority of working professionals. did. Like Focumax, it combines antioxidants, lutein, zeaxanthin, and zinc to prevent the progression of eye degeneration. This supplement formula filters harmful blue light from cell phones, TVs, and computer screens, helping prevent eye diseases.

Stressnor is a stress management supplement that relieves tension and provides 12-hour lasting effects. Regulates nervous system balance, mental stability, mood, and sleep quality.

Finally, there’s Sole Max, a neurobooster that improves memory, concentration, and brain performance. Helps improve reaction time, nerve cell impulse transmission, memory, and blood circulation. Reduces irritation. and increases oxygen supply. Improvement in these areas is considered important for people studying or working, and better results are obtained when taking various supplements at the same time.

“Deficiencies in these vitamins and minerals can disrupt your body’s metabolism, weaken you, and increase your risk of disease,” Dr. Escarto points out. “Blood tests can confirm whether you are truly deficient in a particular nutrient. Once you have identified your specific nutrient deficiencies, you can quickly address them with simple adjustments to your diet.”

A recent study by Ipsos Europe Public Relations confirmed that the regular use of vitamins and supplements to boost immunity or as a self-care tool is a widespread trend in Europe. Ipsos European Public Relations carried out a survey in 14 EU member countries on behalf of Food Supplements Europe in 2022 and found that almost 9 out of 10 European consumers have ever taken a supplement. It was found that almost all of them had taken it in the past 12 years. Month (93%). Consumers were most likely to report taking vitamin D, vitamin C, and magnesium in the past 12 months.

The Philippines is considered to lag behind EU countries in terms of health indicators. However, the increased presence of foreign brands such as Sole Pharma could help implement PPAN and achieve the goal of improving the nutritional status of Filipinos.
