To effectively keep your hands looking youthful, experts say your hand cream label should list three moisturizing ingredients.
She shared some must-try tips that target the parts of the body where signs of aging first appear.
Saarah Mengrani is a health and skincare specialist at Landys Chemist, a UK-based company that specialises in health-related products and services.
She spoke to the US Sun about her advice for combating the visible signs of ageing.
Moisturized hands
Menglani said people should hydrate their hands daily to keep them smooth.
“Moisturizing helps maintain skin elasticity and prevents dryness, which can lead to wrinkles and fine lines,” she said.

“Look for a hand cream that contains ingredients like shea oil, urea, ceramides and glycerin, which nourish and repair the skin’s barrier function.
“These ingredients help keep skin well hydrated and strengthen the skin’s natural barrier, keeping hands smooth and youthful.”
She said glycerin works well in hand washes to cleanse “without drying out the skin or disrupting the skin barrier.”
Perfect Face
Menglani said using active ingredients in your daily skin care routine can help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles on your face.

“Retinoids like retinol are derived from vitamin A and are known to boost collagen and elastin production and increase cell turnover, which can help improve skin texture and reduce the appearance of fine lines,” she said.
She revealed two other ingredients that can be applied topically as an alternative to anti-aging cosmetic injections.
“Peptides are useful because they are used to make proteins like collagen and elastin,” she said.
“These have the effect of plumping and firming the skin by increasing collagen production and hydration, which may temporarily reduce the appearance of forehead wrinkles.”
“Hyaluronic acid is a popular skin care ingredient that helps firm skin. It acts as a humectant, drawing moisture into the skin.”
She said that wearing sunscreen regularly is important because while it may not make wrinkles go away, it can prevent new ones from forming.
“UV exposure can be a major cause of premature ageing and fine lines on the forehead and elsewhere, and protecting your skin with a broad-spectrum SPF can help prevent skin damage,” she said.
Smooth Eyes
Menglani said dark circles and bags under the eyes could be caused by ageing, as well as genetics, fatigue and lifestyle choices.
She recommended drinking plenty of fluids and reducing salt intake to reduce swelling and improve a dull complexion.
Hyaluronic acid hydrates and plumps the skin, while retinol stimulates collagen production to improve skin texture.

Topical ingredients that are effective against wrinkles are also great for rejuvenating the skin around the eyes.
“When choosing an eye cream or serum, look for ingredients like caffeine, niacinamide, vitamin C, hyaluronic acid and retinol,” says Menglani.
“Hyaluronic acid hydrates and plumps the skin, while retinol stimulates collagen production to improve skin texture.
“Vitamin C brightens the complexion, reduces pigmentation and promotes collagen production.
“With hyaluronic acid, niacinamide and caffeine, this eye serum helps reduce pigmentation and puffiness while plumping the skin.”
