Skiatook business owners are literally inventing the recipe for success.
Melissa Stratman, who owns the Osage Hills Retreat Center for quilters, scrapbookers, and other hobbyists, recently published a new cookbook featuring her favorite dishes and others submitted by her clients. did.
The book, titled “Stitch, Scrap & Stir,” features more than 200 recipes contributed by more than 60 Osage Hills Retreaters from across the United States, including participants from Australia.
Stratman’s idea to print the book came from the many events she hosts where clients cater and share their own creative dishes. She said the book was the “go-to” book for retreaters around the world.

“Food is a big part of the retreat process because you all come together. It’s a social event,” Stratman said. “Women bring their best and most popular dishes and there is a lot of recipe sharing.”
The 130-page cookbook includes seven chapters: Appetizers and Snacks, Soups and Salads, Vegetables and Side Dishes, Meats and Main Dishes, Breads and Breakfast, Desserts, Drinks and More.
Signature dishes include Garlic Cheese Balls, Herzog’s Cranberry Relish, Slow Cooked Ranch Mushrooms, Crockpot Cream Cheese Chicken, Hot Hawaiian Sandwich, Tater Tot Breakfast Casserole, Butterscotch Bubble Loaf, Chex Peanut Butter Marshmallow Bars, and Italian Ricotta This includes cookies.
Kathy Raines is a regular at Osage Hills and posted her scone recipe in the “Bread and Breakfast” chapter of her book.
“The first food is definitely the scones. Some people threaten not to come if they don’t have scones,” Rains joked. “This recipe is a soft bread that can be added with many different types of sweets to make it the perfect snack.”
The book also lists some of his favorite drinks, including the Pineapple Jalapeno Margarita, Lemon Drop Martini, Chocolate Cake Shot, Quilter’s Moonshine, Rum Punch, and Bourbon Slushie.
“These are tried and true recipes,” Stratman says. “I think food has a very positive impression on most people. Being able to share my favorite dishes with you is an act of love for me.”
