Bodybuilding behemoth Dorian Yates has revealed that he’s added an unexpected element to his fitness routine: Pilates. Yates has always emphasized the HIIT approach, teaching his trainees to train with high-intensity training programs. However, he recently shared a sneak peek of his Pilates workout on Instagram, showing how the exercises are helping him stay healthy and flexible at 62 years old.

The six-time Mr Olympia took to Instagram to share a series of images and videos showcasing his Pilates routine. He wrote in the caption: “Just a little peek at my Pilates class.” Here’s a glimpse into the lesser known side of his fitness routine. “I usually take an hour’s class once a week and this is perfect.” he added, highlighting the huge benefits he has experienced.

The video he shared shows that, despite his age, he’s more flexible and athletic than many younger people. Plus, Shadow spoke candidly about the impact Pilates has had on his overall health, saying: “I find it greatly improves my mobility and flexibility in all areas. It also helps reduce my risk of injury.” This discovery from the bodybuilding legend highlights the importance of incorporating a variety of training methods to maintain and strengthen the body’s health, especially as we age.

Looking back, Yates said she has some regrets about not discovering Pilates earlier in her career. “If I had known about Pilates and its benefits 30 years ago, I would have definitely done it.” “It’s a great way to improve your performance,” he admitted. The comment highlights that even the most accomplished athletes can find value in practices outside of traditional training routines.

Pilates focuses on core strength, flexibility, and posture through controlled movements, making it a holistic approach to fitness. Yates’ endorsement of Pilates speaks to its effectiveness: It improves your body control and flexibility, allowing you to train harder without worrying about injury. Plus, Yates has previously shared this wisdom for optimal results:

Dorian Yates explains how to train your subconscious mind for maximum benefit

Previously, the British bodybuilder shared some valuable insights on how you can build muscle mass by training your subconscious mind in the gym. In a video posted to his social media accounts, Yates explained how your subconscious mind can affect your training sets. “If you’re going to do four sets, save your energy for those sets.” He said: “This approach will impact your performance in the gym and allow you to conserve energy throughout your training.”

Yeats emphasized the importance of understanding this mental aspect. “If you max out every set, there’s no point in continuing.” He said. “All we’re trying to do is basically shoot a dead horse.” He warned that this can cause unnecessary stress to the body. His advice? “Prepare to fail and move forward.” He explained that this mindset helped him stay focused and give his best effort in each set. “Mentally, I gave myself a chance to get it right and move on. It was easier to deal with that way.” explained the bodybuilding legend.

That being said, bodybuilding GOAT Dorian Yates recommends incorporating Pilates into your workout to train your subconscious mind in order to increase your flexibility, reduce the risk of injury, and maximize the efficiency of your training for optimal results.
