The Singapore Tourism Board (STB) has invited interested parties to submit concept and price return bids to develop and operate a wellness attraction on selected land near Marina Bay Sands.
According to details released on Friday, the project forms a key part of STB’s strategy to grow wellness tourism, offering visitors holistic and immersive wellness experiences as part of their tourism offering.
The striking four-hectare site is located along the waterfront and once completed, the wellness facility is set to become one of the precinct’s key attractions, alongside neighbouring attractions such as Gardens by the Bay, Founders Memorial at Bay East and Marina Barrage.
STB said it is seeking proposals for innovative, high-quality concepts that have a positive impact on physical, emotional and mental wellbeing, which could include therapeutic arts, technology-based services such as floatation therapy and light- and frequency-based therapies, complementary health and alternative therapies, and fitness and recovery-related activities such as indoor and outdoor water- and equipment-based activities.
Wellness facilities should also build a strong pipeline of regular, high-quality wellness-themed events and programs that appeal to both tourists and residents, not only on their own premises but also in public spaces within the wellness facility and the surrounding area.
The tender is open to domestic and international bidders, and proposals must be submitted by October 4, 2024.
“As demand for resilience and wellness-related experiences grows, we believe Singapore is well-positioned to pioneer urban wellness that prioritises holistic wellness,” said Carrie Kwik, executive director, World Expo and Special Projects, Singapore Tourism Board.
“This bid marks a major step towards realising our wellness ambitions, leveraging Singapore’s strengths in accessibility, technology and as a strong business hub. This wellness attraction will contribute to Singapore’s tourism sector by giving travellers an even more compelling reason to extend their stay and spend more in Singapore. Locals will also be able to enjoy the wide range of wellness services available.”
Wellness tourism is becoming an increasingly attractive sector in jurisdictions across Asia, with the Macau SAR Government having named Big Health as one of four multifaceted development projects identified as priority areas, alongside high-tech, modern finance, MICE, culture and sports.
Recent Reports Bloomberg Macau concessionaire MGM China said it was considering a “wellness-themed” expansion of MGM Cotai, one of Macau’s integrated resorts, which it claimed would include adding hundreds of hotel rooms as well as spa and health treatment services.
