••• Recipes Bakery and Jolly Brothers catering, which shared the building at 604 Santa Barbara Street (Cota/Ortega), have closed and the cute little building is for sale.

•••The bar/restaurant/music venue planned for 330 State Street (at Gutierrez Street) appears to have run out of fuel, with the building listed for sale for $7.9 million.

••• The Independent ran mini-profiles of eight local bartenders.

••• I took my own advice and had a croissant at Santa Barbara Hives in Carpinteria. It was delicious. I wasn’t expecting it to be so firm and look like a chunky manatee, but it was beautifully layered and torn apart and tasted perfect. So I went back and had a chocolate and cherry croissant that was even better (partly because I got there before 8 and the croissant was still warm and drizzled in melted chocolate). Now I’ve got to go for pizza.
