SALEM — The Salem High School Interact Club held a mental health fair Friday as part of the National Youth Violence Prevention Week program.

“Mental health awareness and support is sorely needed, and as we celebrate National Youth Violence Prevention Week, a mental health fair is the perfect ending to show students all the resources available in our community. I thought there was.” said Interact Club Advisor Suzanne Harding.

Friday marked the second year the club has held the mental health fair, which was funded through a Bonnie Hoppel School Health Grant from the Columbiana County Educational Service Center. Mr Harding said students had responded well to the week’s program and there had been a noticeable increase in spontaneous acts of kindness among students, and the club hopes to make the fair an annual tradition. he said.

This year’s fair focused on local resources, with more than a dozen organizations from Salem and Columbiana counties participating. These include Cycare, CASH Coalition, Family Recovery Center, Interact Club, Salem Schools QuickMed Clinic, Brightside Project, and Counseling Center of Ohio. University Extension 4-H Program, Akron Children’s Hospital, Salvation Army, Alliance Area Domestic Violence Shelter, United Way, Family Success Network, and Christina House Domestic Violence Program.

In addition to helping organize the fair and deciding on and designing the prizes that will be handed out at each table, Harding said the club will host several programs throughout the week, including programming, painting murals in the hallways, and peer-coaching activities. He said that he was planning such activities.Students in production “Kindness Card” It was shared with other students.
