Winners for Wellness Festival, an event supporting Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC), is coming to Louisville.
July is BIPOC Mental Health Month, and Seven Counties Services is hosting a wellness festival to uplift people in the community by learning more about the intersectionality of race and mental health.
The Winners for Wellness festival kicks off at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 20, at the California Community Center, 1600 St Catherine St. Attendees are encouraged to bring people of all ages to the event, which will be filled with “fun, education and wellness,” according to a press release from Seven Counties Services.
“We are excited to bring the Winners for Wellness festival to our community. This event is an important opportunity to celebrate and support the mental health and wellbeing of members of our BIPOC community,” Bridie Harris, director of diversity initiatives for Seven Counties Services, said in a press release sent to LEO Weekly. “We encourage everyone to join us, enjoy the day, and take advantage of the resources and activities available.”
These resources include free health screenings, giveaways, educational resources, etc. These educational resources come from guest speakers who talk about topics such as:
- How racism impacts mental health
- Body Positivity
- LGBTQ+ People of Color and Mental Health
- Aging and Elder Care in Communities of Color
- How bus rerouting, redlining, and gentrification negatively impact BIPOC mental health
- Model what access to behavioral health care looks like
