Three tools make it easy to find sites offering free meals to Texas children

AUSTIN — Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller announced that schools, churches, city governments and other nonprofit organizations will open free meal sites across Texas on or about June 1. The Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA) administers summer meal programs in Texas, and these TDA partners serve children under the age of 18 and enrolled students with disabilities up to the age of 21 in low-income areas. Secretary Miller recommends that Texas families use one of three methods to find nearby dining options:

This summer, some local facilities will be distributing multi-day meal kits to families who are unable to commute to the facility each day. That’s why it’s important for families to use these tools frequently to check dates and times and get detailed information on how to eat. provided. Families may connect by phone, email, online or to a meal site to provide healthy meals to Texas youth over the summer.
TDA partners provide meals at facilities in designated areas, including areas where 50 percent or more of children receive free or reduced-price meals under the National School Lunch or School Breakfast Program. Meals are available to individuals under the age of 18 and those who have been determined by a state or local educational agency to have a mental or physical disability and who are enrolled in a public or private school program established for those 19 years of age.
