Safety Harbor meditation studio uses sounds and scarves to reduce stress

SAFETY HARBOR, Fla. — Many people are feeling more stressed now than they were before the pandemic began.

These people, including Rory O’Connor, are seeking redress. A former Navy SEAL told ABC Action News that for many veterans, returning from deployment can be a shock to the system.

“You could be in combat on Monday and be at the dinner table on Tuesday. That’s not healthy,” O’Connor said.

He continued, “There is also a suicide rate. And one of the big things that establishes that is isolation. If it becomes very difficult for them to get the vaccine, that’s when they self-isolate.”

After helping many struggling veterans, O’Connor realized early on that he needed to let go of stress and found meditation.

However, he admits that he is still a student of the practice.

“A lot of people say, ‘I can’t meditate because my thoughts keep coming up.’ That’s normal. I’ve been meditating for 30 years, and it still happens to me. ” O’Connor explained.

So when OM Mediation and Wellness opened in Safety Harbor, he was intrigued. This unique wellness center features luxurious silk scarves, vibrations, sound bowls, and more.

Amy Triplett, a mental health counselor, opened OM after taking a similar class with her friend Mara, who was dealing with severe pain from cancer. She found her peace in floating with her silk scarf held high.

“So this was born out of the loss of a friend. So I know that Mara is actively participating in the healing of others because of the journey we went through together.” Amy Triplett said.

The aerial scarf gently wraps around your body, giving you a feeling of weightlessness.

“Being able to not only feel pressured and completely relaxed, but also have a very personal experience of your own, is a really nice addition,” Triplett said.

Soothing vibrations help students relax on a deeper level.

“Incorporating sound into meditation clears the chatter in my head much faster and deeper than anything I’ve ever experienced before,” Triplett said.

“Think about everyone’s schedule. My schedule is to make breakfast, make everyone’s lunch, and make sure their homework is done,” says the mother of three, a math teacher, and a non-professional. said Kristin Tsafatinos, who owns a commercial theater.

Tsafatinos has a busy schedule and knows he needs to pay attention to his mental health.

“I feel like I love the saying, ‘You can’t pour water from an empty cup.’ So I learned that paying attention to self-care early on in motherhood and also in education. I learned that I have to take the time to make sure,” Tsafatinos said.

That’s when she found OM, where she feels guided by inner balance and peace.

“At OM, you have the opportunity to gift yourself the time and space to give your whole self to a 50-minute session so you can leave the house feeling super refreshed and ready to take on the day. ” explained Tsafatinos.

And she’s not alone.

“When you hear or experience a sound bowl, you’re actually feeling it, and that’s very important. I quickly found that it had a soothing, cathartic effect,” O’Connor said. Ta.
