Comedian Russell Brand warned of a spiritual “darkness” that is evident in the world today while discussing the recent assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump during an interview at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin earlier this week.
Responding to a question from conservative voice Benny Johnson, who noted that the only person not to feel a “heightened spiritual energy” following Trump’s near-death on Saturday would be “in a coma or dead,” Brand said he was pleased people were looking at the incident from a spiritual perspective.
Russell Brand discusses dark spiritual energy and how it contributed to the assassination attempt on President Trump.

“I’m really glad you gave us a spiritual lens because, honestly, this was something that some people predicted. [sic] Or at least it was foreseen, and perhaps foreseen given the escalating situation and extreme tensions,” Brand said. “From a number of perspectives, this seems like something people were expecting.”
Mr Brand said Johnson’s allegations about a “dark spiritual energy” were something he had been “aware of for some time”.
“It certainly feels like there is a darkness that our reason cannot fully comprehend,” he said, adding, “certainly, as a new Christian, I’m beginning to see it with a new perspective.”
“I’ve always understood cruelty, darkness and lies to occupy a space in the establishment for materialistic reasons, for reasons of control,” Brand told Johnson. “Now I’m beginning to sense that there may be an – I don’t really like to use that word – an ‘occult’ aspect, or a Luciferian aspect.”
Brand, who has been open about his past drug use and New Age leanings, said he’s been thinking lately about the story in Luke 10, in which Jesus tells his disciples “they saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven.”
“I recently had a strong feeling that God, a creator who transcends time and space, is giving people the ability to drive away the darkness that now needs to be banished,” he said.
Brand raised several unanswered questions about the assassination attempt on Trump, noting that Johnson previously said it was a “miracle” that Trump wasn’t killed by the bullet because he turned his head at the right time, as seen in the video.
House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-Louisiana) announced Wednesday that the House will create a special committee to investigate the “shocking security failures” surrounding the assassination attempt on President Trump.
Brand attracted international attention earlier this year when he converted to Christianity after a long and public struggle with his faith, and was baptized in the River Thames in April along with Bear Grylls and another friend.
Mr Bland’s christening came less than a year after a joint investigation by The Times, the Sunday Times and Channel 4’s Dispatch broke allegations from four women who accused Mr Bland of rape, sexual assault and emotional abuse – allegations which Mr Bland denies.
Others have recently suggested that divine intervention was involved in the fact that 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks only grazed Trump’s ear because the former president happened to turn his head during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.
Speaking at a Heritage Foundation event at the Republican National Convention on Monday, conservative commentator Tucker Carlson cited the attempted assassination of President Trump as an example of dark spiritual forces at work in the United States.
“I think the attempted assassination of President Trump on Saturday has reminded or awakened a lot of people to this: There is a spiritual war going on,” he said.
“There is no logical way to understand what we are seeing right now in terms of time. It is not possible. This is not a political division. There are forces there whose only purpose is chaos, violence and destruction, which are now very clear and which, for some reason, have decided to take off their masks,” he added.
Dr. Ben Carson, an evangelical who served as President Trump’s Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, quoted Isaiah in his speech at the Republican National Convention on Monday, saying he believes God “lowered a shield of protection” over President Trump last weekend.
“I watched my dear friend President Trump escape death by inches,” Carson said, “and my thoughts immediately turned to Isaiah, ‘No weapon formed against you shall prosper.'”
