Rice University’s Office of the Provost, Rice Recreation Employee Wellbeing Team and campus leaders launched the first-ever Wellness Wednesday this week. The initiative is dedicated to faculty and staff wellbeing, focusing on a holistic approach to health and wellness and providing many opportunities for employees to engage with university leadership in a variety of ways.
“Paula and I have emphasized the importance of wellness at Rice University and have demonstrated our commitment by participating in the inaugural Stride Out Stress Walk/Run for faculty and staff,” said Chancellor Reginald DeRoches. “Wellness Wednesday is an extension of that effort, providing faculty and staff with a monthly opportunity to get in some physical activity to stay healthy.”
For the first Wellness Wednesday, Elmer Whitehead, interim assistant vice president for facilities, engineering and operations, led a 30-minute beginner’s tai chi wellness experience at Gibbs Recreation & Wellness Center, practicing controlled breathing, gentle stretches and a mini-series of slow-paced standing postures.
Sessions will be held campus-wide once a month throughout the academic year. Additional sessions are scheduled on the following dates:
• August 28, 2024
