new york – New UK research shows young people are aging faster than ever before
To make matters worse, researchers also found a link between accelerated aging and earlier onset of cancer.
Dr. Nidhi Kumar is on call with CBS New York to discuss this research and what we can do to slow down time. Researchers found that people born after 1965 had an increased risk of accelerated aging and early-onset cancer. The risk of early-onset lung cancer increases by about 4%, the risk of gastrointestinal cancer by 20%, and the risk of uterine cancer by 35%.
”[The study] I didn’t mention the reason, but [but] I think you can guess a little. Life has become more stressful. Although technology has made us more efficient, it actually adds a lot of stress to our lives. Our diet, environmental factors, all of those things collectively really age us,” Dr. Kumar explained.
So what is the difference between chronological age and biological age?
“Chronological aging is how many birthday parties you’ve had. How old are you, really? Biological age is actually cellular age. How is your general health? , how much do we actually age at the cellular level? And for many people, humans, they don’t match,” Dr. Kumar said.
Can age be reversed?
“The answer is yes, but we’re not there yet in the medical field. There’s a $60 billion anti-aging industry, but it’s more superficial, it’s about making you look younger. But… True reverse aging occurs at the surface of the body.”It’s research at the cellular level, looking at changes in the gut microbiome, hormonal changes, and even the activation of specific genes that help prevent aging. That’s definitely on the horizon, with research currently underway,” says Dr. Kumar. He said.
Another study found that a woman’s biological age increases by about two years with each pregnancy.
“The good thing about this is that there is some regression in the puerperium. What this means for women’s long-term mortality and health has not been addressed in the study, and further research that takes that into account is needed. “It needs to be done,” he said. Kumar. “We have a problem with maternal health in our country. This study highlights how important it is to be healthy before pregnancy and pay close attention to the health of young mothers.”
With so many anti-aging products on the market, which ones are scientifically backed to work? Dr. Kumar recommends getting more sleep, wearing sunscreen, and exercising through strength training. She recommends avoiding inflammatory foods such as smoking, alcohol and ultra-processed foods, and trying mindfulness-based stress reduction techniques.
