As the world emerges from the pandemic, it is clear that people around the world are focused on their health. In response, global healthcare company Abbott, in collaboration with IPSOS, published the results of a comprehensive study entitled “Healthy Living: The Role of Vitamin C.”
The study was conducted among 2,000 people across nine cities in India, including Hyderabad, and sheds light on the evolution of personal health priorities post-pandemic. The study highlights that nearly 7 in 10 respondents prioritize health and associate it with strong immunity, sustained energy levels, and a seamless daily routine.
Kartik Peetambaran, Deputy Director, Medical, Abbott India, emphasized the importance of vitamin C in strengthening the body’s immunity. He highlighted its role in the prevention and treatment of respiratory infections and its multifaceted health benefits.
This study revealed both observed and perceived benefits associated with vitamin C supplementation. Among the observed benefits, 52% of respondents noted fewer sick days during the rainy season and winter with the use of vitamin C supplements, and 61% of women reported faster recovery from illness. did. Approximately 60% of participants (including half of those not taking supplements) perceived vitamin C supplements to be effective in improving recovery from illness.
Additionally, 65% of respondents recognize that vitamin supplements help maintain overall health, and 52% believe in the ability of vitamin supplements to support bone and joint health. Additionally, a significant majority (73%) reported drinking enough fluids and following a balanced diet to speed recovery from illness.
Regarding the effects of low vitamin C intake, 60% of respondents expressed concern about weakened immunity, and 36% associated low vitamin C intake with delayed recovery from illness.
Echoing this sentiment, Victor Emmanuel, Principal Physician at Prajwala Hospital, University of Hyderabad, highlighted the significant health benefits associated with adequate vitamin C intake. He explained the role of iron in strengthening the body’s defenses, promoting bone health, promoting iron absorption, aiding wound healing, and maintaining oral health.
