The Redmond Senior Center has announced that Joel Blanchard, Community Education and Outreach Manager for Partners in Care, will return to speak for the third and final installment of their Dementia Awareness Series. The event will be held on Wednesday, July 3, 2024 at 1:00 pm at the Redmond Senior Center, 325 NW Dogwood Ave. in Redmond.
Blanchard is known for his extensive expertise in dementia care and his compassionate approach to educating the community. Through his role with Partners In Care, a local nonprofit that provides hospice, home health care and a variety of supportive services, Joel has made a significant impact on families navigating a complex time in their medically fragile lives.
Key areas of focus
In this final session, titled “Preparing for Living with Dementia,” Joel will cover important topics including:
- Advance directives: Understand the importance of having legal documents that state your medical wishes if you are no longer able to communicate for yourself.
- Physician Orders for Life-Sustaining Treatment (POLST): Learn about POLST forms and how to ensure that medical professionals follow your medical wishes in an emergency.
- Building a supportive community: It fosters support networks for individuals and carers, providing them with the resources and knowledge they need to cope with the challenges that dementia brings.
This structured programme provides a comprehensive framework to help families make informed decisions about their future care needs and aims to foster a safe and supportive environment for people affected by dementia.
