The Los Angeles Rams have enjoyed a well-deserved break from football over the past month or so, but the team is now gearing up for training camp, scheduled to begin in two weeks.
Los Angeles is coming off a strong bounce-back year that included a trip to the postseason and is looking to return to championship contender status after addressing needs on both sides of the football in the offseason.
The Rams organization has proceeded the right way, as usual, in building their program in terms of strategy, player development and free agent signings, but there are always ways to improve and ensure players have the resources they need to perform better on the field.
For example, one area to improve was the team’s food options and habits, which had received poor ratings in annual player surveys, so the team hired Sebastian Zorn in April to help the organization in that regard, per ESPN’s Sarah Barshop.
When the NFLPA’s survey results were released in February, the Rams received a C-plus in the nutrition category, ranking 26th out of 32 teams. The Rams hired Zorn in April.
“We didn’t know how good he was going to be until he got here,” Rams coach Sean McVay said.
Zorn gave a brief rundown of how he has revamped Los Angeles’ food program and why it will benefit players.
“It starts with the food,” Zone says, “so it’s really important to get the food service right first, because if the food is bad, you can offer it all, but if they don’t eat it, they’re going to abandon it and walk out. So that was the first place to start.”
Nutrition is something that some players put on the back burner, especially for younger players who are more likely to burn fat and extra calories, but over time it can add up and affect performance, so it’s good to see the Rams listening to their players and bringing in someone like Zorn to oversee their nutrition program.
Rams’ Braden Fisk practices with Aaron Donald
Los Angeles is looking to members of the 2024 NFL Draft class to take the team to the next level, with Braden Fisk expected to play a key role from Day 1. Fisk is expected to replace Aaron Donald on the Rams’ defensive line, and the two are scheduled to work out together in person ahead of training camp.
