Prime Minister Narendra Modi completed a 45-hour meditation in Kanyakumari, Tamil Nadu on June 1.
According to officials, the Prime Minister performed ‘Surya Argya’ during sunrise at the Vivekananda Rock-cut Memorial before beginning the second and final day of meditation.
A photograph of Prime Minister Narendra Modi meditating at the Vivekananda Rock Memorial in Kanniyakumari in Tamil Nadu, India’s southernmost state, was first released by the BJP on May 31. Modi began meditating in the evening of May 30.
Clad in a saffron shirt, shawl and dhoti, PM Modi was seen meditating and roaming around the grounds of the Dhyan Mandapam, the same place where Swami Vivekananda meditated in 1892. This came after the Prime Minister wrapped up a hectic campaign for the Lok Sabha elections.
As part of his meditation, PM Modi performed Surya Argya, a spiritual ritual in which worship and salutation are offered to the almighty God in the form of the sun, at sunrise.
Modi’s spiritual retreat came at the end of the campaign for India’s Lok Sabha elections.
After arriving in Kanniyakumari, the Prime Minister went directly to the Bhagavathi Amman temple and offered prayers.
Security was stepped up during Modi’s visit, with 2,000 police personnel deployed during his stay, and the Indian Coast Guard and Indian Navy maintained a heavy vigil in the area.
Modi is known to undertake spiritual journeys at the end of election campaigns, visiting Kedarnath in Uttarakhand in 2019 and Pratapagarh in Maharashtra in 2014.
