{KXLG – Watertown, South Dakota} Prairie Lakes Wellness Center recently outlined upcoming renovation and maintenance plans for the facility after minutes from Tuesday night’s Parks, Recreation and Forestry Commission meeting were made public.
Men’s steam room closed for renovation
Mold was found in the men’s steam room despite the presence of a vapor barrier. The Wellness Center will install a new vapor barrier and spray foam insulation to prevent mold growth. Dehumidifiers will dry out the space, but they require temporary closures to work effectively. The estimated cost of this project is $46,000.
Maintenance of rooftop units
Representatives from Canadian company Ceresco visited the wellness center to address issues with the pool area’s rooftop unit, which is responsible for air circulation and temperature control. The goal is to extend the unit’s life by an additional three years to meet its expected 10-year lifespan. Issues identified included rust, water ingress, and insufficient air circulation, resulting in the unit operating at around 80% capacity. Ceresco’s repairs have improved functionality and they recommend adding a fan to the pool area to improve airflow. A biennial maintenance plan requires Ceresco’s expertise, but no local company has the necessary qualifications.
