If you are from the Indian subcontinent, the traditional combination of dal bhat (lentils and rice) might be your go-to lunch on a hot summer afternoon. The addition of crispy aloo bkhire (potato fries) turns this dish into a culinary delight. Surprisingly, the iconic dal bhat and aloo bkhire dish is not only a favourite in Indian households but has also become a hit among expats. UK-based chef and food blogger Jake Dryan has featured this popular combination in his Instagram “Regional Indian Cuisine Series” and shares a glimpse of his delicious preparation techniques. Jake Durian cut potatoes into strips, heated a frying pan with plenty of mustard oil and began his culinary journey. He then added mustard and fenugreek seeds and fried the potato strips until golden brown. He then added green chillies, turmeric and salt. The food blogger then proceeded to prepare plain yellow dal, a signature dish of Bihar. To enhance the spicy flavour, he mixed in cumin seeds, hing, garlic, ginger and dried chillies. He finished by adding chilli powder and grated onion. Durian described his experience as “literally in heaven” as he enjoyed his dal bhat and aloo bhujia, calling it “classic South Asian comfort food”. Take a look.

Foodies had a joyous experience watching the video.
