Thiruvananthapuram: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will arrive in Thiruvananthapuram on Thursday and will then travel to Kanyakumari by helicopter to inspect the sacred Vivekananda Rock. Modi will meditate for the next 45 hours at the same rock where Swami Vivekananda attained enlightenment.
Thursday will also mark the end of campaigning for the 2024 LS elections. PM Modi’s meditation will continue till June 1.
Modi will campaign till Thursday afternoon, after which he will fly to Thiruvananthapuram city. He is expected to arrive at the defence area of the Thiruvananthapuram airport. There will be no welcoming ceremony for the prime minister.
Security measures have been stepped up at both Thiruvananthapuram and Kanyakumari airports.
The AICC, meanwhile, has filed a complaint with the Election Commission, alleging that Modi’s meditation is a form of election campaigning and violates the election code of conduct. The DMK has also filed a petition with the district election commission, demanding that the meditation be cancelled. K. Selvaperuntagai, Tamil Nadu unit chief of the Indian National Congress party, has also filed a petition with the Election Commission.
During the 2014 and 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Narendra Modi had undertaken similar campaigns followed by two days of meditation. Both the meditations took place in the mystical hill ranges of Uttarakhand.
