Kanyakumari: Prime Minister Narendra Modi displayed spirituality and offered prayers to the sun in the wee hours of Friday as part of his ongoing meditation at the Vivekananda Rock Memorial in Kanyakumari. PM Modi, who began his meditation on Thursday, later returned inside the mandapam.
Clad in saffron, PM Modi began his three-day meditation on Thursday night after offering prayers at the Bhagavati Amman temple. Early on Friday morning, PM Modi came out of the meditation hall to offer holy water and blew a conch shell as the sun rose from the southeast, before resuming meditation. Tourists who thronged the monument in large numbers were screened along with their baggage. They could watch the sunrise from the sunrise point behind the temple.
Other activities were also put on hold due to the Prime Minister’s visit. The Poonpuhar Shipping Company’s Kanniyakumari ferry service operated a boat to the Vivekananda Rock Memorial in the morning but stopped at noon. It resumed in the afternoon but only for an hour. All tourists’ Aadhaar cards were checked and they underwent security checks before being allowed on board.
PM Modi to continue meditation till Saturday
Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s meditation will continue till 3 pm on Saturday. Security has been stepped up in and around Kanniyakumari.
