“The participants will travel to Santiago Norte where they will come under the jurisdiction of the Province of Santiago Norte and will receive a special programme,” he added.
On August 8, the participants will be taken to the city of Praia, where they will be greeted by host families, before reconvening at about 3 p.m. and “going with great joy to the Papal Cross,” Deacon Vaz said.
At Pope’s Cross Arlindo Cardinal Gomez Furtado “I will be presiding at the opening sacrament of the last week of the Holy Year in the town of Quebra Canela, which is a historic place for us,” he added.
A Catholic youth official said the Holy Mass will be followed by “a wonderful festival for young people to enjoy.”
The celebration of the Catholic Youth Year gives Cape Verdean young people an opportunity to show their love “for their Church, their parishes and above all for their country,” Deacon Vaz said.
The invitation to take part in the activities from Aug. 4 to 12 is also extended to “everyone living in the country and abroad,” and “of course we also need young people from all the parishes, all the diocesan offices and also the two diocesan offices in the country,” he said.
He further stated that by taking part in the planned events, young people from Cape Verde would be committed to being active members of their country and the global Church.
To achieve this, the Permanent Deacon said, “we need to be well prepared and well involved. That is why the spiritual dimension is so important and becomes more prominent.”
