With summer party season fast approaching, it’s important to have a few go-to recipes at the ready. Next time you’re invited to a pool party, you want a tasty snack you can whip up in no time! Ree Drummond (aka The Pioneer Woman) has a fun new appetizer perfect for a group of vegetarian friends. And did we mention you can make it in your air fryer? No hot oil in a big frying pan is needed for this easy recipe!
Air Fryer Falafel are made into little round balls that are the perfect finger food. “You’ll love these crispy golden falafels with fresh veggies and creamy tahini yogurt sauce in a pita bread! 😋,” Drummond captioned the Instagram post. “The best part is, it’s so easy to make at home!” We’re speechless. We’re already buying them!
Falafel is a vegetarian staple because it’s hearty and flavorful. It’s usually made with chickpeas or fava beans and served in pita bread or with a salad. Drummond’s recipe uses canned chickpeas instead of dried ones, which provide a “great texture” but are much more convenient. “The addition of a little bit of flour helps to reduce the moisture in the falafel dough and makes it easier to roll out,” she explains.
The falafels are first prepared by blending the coriander, cumin and other ingredients in a food processor until they’re “very finely chopped.” The chickpeas are then added and processed again until the mixture is “almost smooth.” From there, sesame seeds are stirred in and the dough is rolled into balls, which are then placed in the air fryer basket and cooked “until very brown and crispy.”
They’re delicious on their own or with pita, tomatoes, and lettuce, but Drummond also recommends making a tahini-yogurt sauce for dipping, by whisking plain Greek yogurt, tahini, and other ingredients in a bowl to a pourable consistency and storing in the fridge until ready to serve.
This Air Fryer Falafel looks so delicious and so easy to make – definitely a dish I’ll be saving!
