Already beloved by fans for their lush landscapes, epic battles, and fantastical storylines, Peter Jackson’s epic Lord of the Rings films became essential viewing in the early 2000s. and is highly regarded to this day.
But there’s one person who missed out on the full impact of a must-see movie experience. It’s the Oscar-winning director himself.
“When I made the Lord of the Rings movies, I always thought I was one of the unlucky people who didn’t get to see it as an out-of-the-box movie,” said the 60-year-old filmmaker. Told. He recently spoke on The Hollywood Reporter’s Awards Chatter podcast. “I had been immersed in this film for five or six years by the time it came out. I was very disappointed that I wouldn’t be able to see them the same way you did.”
Jackson then explained that missing out on such a major part of pop culture left him looking for creative solutions at the time. It was a solution that allowed me to watch movies with fresh eyes without spoiling the pesky past works.
“I actually seriously considered going to a hypnotherapist and having him hypnotize me so I could forget about all the movies and work I’d done over the past six or seven years and just sit back and enjoy it.” he confessed.
He said he “didn’t follow through” with the idea, but went so far as to reach out to celebrity mentalist Deren Brown about the possibility.
“He thought he could do it,” Jackson added.
Of course, when it comes to the next “Lord of the Rings,” you’ll have no problem attending along with other first-time viewers.
That’s because Jackson isn’t working on Amazon’s “The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power.” The film takes fans of J.R.R. Tolkien’s story back to Middle-earth and depicts a prequel to when the precious Ring of Power was first formed.
The series is scheduled to premiere on Prime Video on September 2nd.
