Patanjali Ayurved has stopped selling 14 products after the Uttarakhand government suspended its manufacturing licence in April, news agency PTI reported. The FMCG company said in a Supreme Court hearing that it had instructed its 5,606 franchisees to remove the products.
Patanjali Ayurved has informed media platforms to withdraw advertisements of these 14 products in any form, the news agency added.
Patanjali Ayurved has been directed to file an affidavit stating whether its request to social media intermediaries to remove the advertisements has been accepted and whether the advertisements of these 14 products have been withdrawn.
A bench of Justices Hima Kohli and Sandeep Mehta granted Justice Patanjali two weeks’ time and scheduled the matter for further hearing on July 30.
The top court was hearing a petition filed by the Indian Medical Association (IMA) which alleged that Patanjali had launched a smear campaign against the Covid-19 vaccination drive and modern medicine.
On April 30, the Uttarakhand government suspended the manufacturing licences of 14 products manufactured by Patanjali Ayurved and Divya Pharmacy.
The state licensing authority suspended the licence citing “repeated breaches” of the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertising) Act, 1954.
The Uttarkhand government has cancelled the licences of 14 Patanjali Ayurved products – Swasai Gold, Swasari Vati, Broncom, Swasari Pravahi, Swasari Avale, Muktavati Extra Power, Lipidum, Bp Grit, Madhugrit, Madhunasinivati Extra Power, Rivamrit Advance, Rivogrit, Eyegrit Gold and Patanjali Drishti Eye Drops.
