CALIFORNIA, USA — People have been using acupuncture to treat physical and emotional pain for centuries, and there’s research behind it.
ABC10 health expert Dr. Payal Kohli said the treatment restores balance by stimulating key points throughout the body that help with nerves, blood flow and inflammation.
Kohli does not recommend acupuncture as a first-line treatment, but consider it if other treatments are ineffective. She says her parents should talk to their child’s pediatrician about that.
“Be careful when giving acupuncture to children, as children are often nervous about needles. Historically, acupuncture has been used to stimulate acupuncture points throughout the body. We’ve actually used needles, but what do they know, the science has shown to be just as effective, and that’s why we use other methods of stimulating children. , there are acupuncture points that can be used to stimulate the ears, and there are also suction devices that can be used to stimulate blood flow, and we know that they stimulate those acupuncture points, but they actually stimulate those acupuncture points. “There are some places that use things like low-level electrical currents that are painless,” Kohli said.
She said it can be difficult to use needles on children because she has to worry about the effects of repeated needle sticks on their skin. So it might be a good idea to consider alternatives, she said.
