Every time powerful women like Hillary Clinton and Beyoncé are featured in the media, we tend to forget that the world’s richest people are primarily made up of men.
forbes According to the 2016 list of world billionaires, 190 of them are women. That may sound like a lot, but it’s actually only 10 percent. The rest of her 1,810 billionaires on the planet are men.
So who are the women who rank among the richest individuals in the world? Those who made it into the top 20 are actually heirs, including Lelene Bettencourt, heir to the L’Oréal beauty empire. Alice Walton, heir to the Walmart throne. and candy company queen Jacqueline Mars.

Only 33 out of 190 female billionaires forbes They consider themselves “self-made,” meaning they inherited not a dime of their empire. At the top of this special subset are Zhou Qunfei and Elizabeth Holmes, who amassed a $5.9 billion fortune as a glass supplier to several small companies, Apple and Samsung. At 32 years old, she is the world’s youngest self-made billionaire.
In fact, the total number of women making dough is down compared to 2015, when there were 197 women making Mucho Moola. But this decline appears to be part of a larger trend for the world’s wealthy. The overall list got a little shorter in 2016, and wealth totals also took a hit. The total wealth of the top 20 people on the list has decreased by $70 billion (sorry, Mr. Gates).
